About U-LITS

The Uganda Livestock Information Tracking System (U-LITS) is a comprehensive digital platform developed to modernise livestock management across all 134 districts of Uganda. Built with the vision of “Ensuring Quality through Traceability,” U-LITS provides an end-to-end solution for livestock identification, health monitoring, movement control, and market access.

Our Mission

To digitise livestock management in Uganda by providing a comprehensive tracking system that ensures complete traceability, effective disease control, and equitable market access for all stakeholders in the livestock value chain — from the smallholder farmer in Karamoja to the commercial rancher in Mbarara.

Our Vision

A Uganda where livestock management is fully digitised, ensuring food safety, farmer prosperity, and sustainable agricultural growth through complete traceability from farm to fork.

Why U-LITS Exists

Uganda’s livestock sector contributes approximately 4.3% of national GDP and supports the livelihoods of over 4.5 million households. Yet the sector has long been hampered by:

  • Lack of traceability — making disease control and quality assurance nearly impossible
  • Paper-based record keeping — leading to data loss, fraud, and inefficiency
  • Limited market access — farmers unable to prove the health status and provenance of their animals
  • Slow disease response — manual communication delaying quarantine and vaccination efforts
  • Weak regulatory enforcement — movement permits and inspections difficult to verify

U-LITS was created to address every one of these challenges through a unified digital platform that connects farmers, veterinary officers, government officials, and market participants in real time.
