Deployment of U-LITS alongside FMD Vaccination

To enhance vaccine effectiveness and disease control, MAAIF is deploying the Uganda Livestock Traceability & Tracking System (U-LITS) alongside the current FMD vaccination campaign. This initiative aims to familiarize District Veterinary Officers (DVOs) with U-LITS before its deployment in the 27 target FMD vaccination districts. The training session will utilize the “Livestock Owner” and “Veterinary Authority” user manuals to ensure DVOs can effectively cascade information to Sub-County VOs, livestock owners, and other stakeholders.

U-LITS integrates two key components: RFID Button and Flag Tag Combo ID for animal identification, and a mobile/web-based data management system (DMS). The system offers numerous benefits including stock theft control, disease monitoring, and meeting health certification standards. Additionally, it supports livestock performance tracking, quality product marketing, and provides feedback from abattoirs to producers. The U-LITS app, available on Play Store and App Store, enables seamless transfer of electronic IDs and efficient livestock management.
